Speaker Roles is an intermediate-level debate course designed to help students understand and master the responsibilities of each speaker position in a competitive debate. Students will learn how debate teams are structured, what each speaker is expected to deliver, how arguments are divided among teammates, and how successful teams strategically build and defend their case.
The course focuses on role-specific training for First Speaker, Second Speaker, and Third Speaker positions on both the Proposition (Affirmative) and Opposition (Negative) sides. Through practical exercises, speech writing, rebuttal drills, and mock debates, students develop the confidence and strategic thinking required to excel in any debate format
